Work Day 24 - RG Project

The weather was lousy today. It rain last night and by 9am it was over. But it was cold, windy and wet. Despite the weather we were determined to at least get the west wall down as far as the east one. I had to cut and remove the sill plate. The both Jim and I went to work on the block. Without a third person though we had to stop and stack the block. That really slowed things down.

About noon we stopped to run some errands and eat something. We also picked us Les a little after 2pm. Having his help made the things go faster. With him stacking the block Jim and I got the wall down fair quickly.

After that I wanted to go ahead and remove the rest of the ceiling joists in the front. There were eight of them and I was able to get them cut down without a problem. We still have the center support beam which comes down tomorrow. Probably whether we like it or not. I think I have worked out a way to get it down without having any major problems, like breaking my neck.

Tomorrow I would like to take the front down to the top of the door. I will have to see if I can get a third man to help, since Les is otherwise occupied. It would definitely make things go better.

  2. Wow, not to much of that building still left. You been really busy on it. I thought all those bricks was solid not hallow. What happens when they all gone? you take all the floor then fill it all with dirt? Is there bricks downstairs to? OK got to go. I got a lot more shortcuts to look at to see if they posted to. 3. Stef, yes what a difference a day makes. Let see what this week will bring, other than a lot of rain.

JJ, Happy to hear from you. When we get the block down we will take out the floor. The floor in Douglas Fir nailed to 2x10's. No basement really, just a crawl space. When we are done they will bring in a bull dozier and push in the foundation and fill the hole in.
    Your friend,
    Sterling
